The American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative seeks a long-term volunteer legal specialist for the Macedonia Defense Advocacy Program. This six-month engagement will be a full-time pro bono position based in Skopje, Macedonia with a flexible start date of September or October 2014.

Duties

The legal specialist will work with the Macedonian Bar Association (MBA) to develop a strategic plan for the MBA. The plan will focus organizational management and capacity, financial management and sustainability, and a plan for creating a continuing legal education system. Key responsibilities include:

·        Conducting a baseline assessment of the Macedonian Bar Association’s needs;

·        Working with the MBA to develop and draft a strategic plan;

·        Writing and editing regular reports, concept papers, and outreach pieces as needed;

·        Contributing to monitoring and evaluation efforts;

·        Managing relations with donors, beneficiaries, and other stakeholders;

Qualifications

·        Experience as a bar executive or working on bar capacity development;

·        Juris Doctorate and experience practicing law preferred;

·        Experience running USG or other donor funded programs in the field preferred;

·        Strong managerial, administrative, and communication skills required;

·        Must be willing to commit to six months of service, and;

·        Fluency in English required.

Salary & Benefits
