The Assistant Director of Career Services is responsible for the following duties: 

(a) Event Planning and Educational Programming: 
The incumbent will plan and execute events and programs for the Career Services Office. Duties will include selecting dates, procuring venues, arranging catering where necessary, managing RSVPs, inviting and hosting guest speakers, managing publicity and visibility. He or she will be involved in the yearly planning of educational programming, with significant input into subject matter, frequency and design of programs. In some cases, incumbent will teach or moderate sessions. Knowledge of powerpoint, google calendar, surveymonkey, and social networking sites are preferred. 

(b) Career Counseling: 
The incumbent will counsel individual students and alumni in career-related matters, including resume and cover letters, interviewing, networking, self-assessment, career path strategy, alternative careers, career change, and other matters. He or she will also take the lead in maintaining an effective counseling management and follow-up system for the CSO team, using counseling software. 

(c) Statistical Collection and Analysis ? The incumbent will assist the Associate Dean for managing the statistical reports for the Law School. This includes supplying accurate data to the external organizations that include: U.S. News and World Report, National Association for Legal Professionals, Princeton Review, Vault Magazine, Barron's Review and the ABA. He or she will be responsible for collecting survey data on graduate and summer employment, and will be expected to deploy various methods of information collection. Incumbent will contribute significantly to policy decisions regarding survey collection. Knowledge of excel, access and Symplicity or CSO software are strongly encouraged. 

(d) Legal Career Research and Publication? The incumbent will monitor legal hiring trends and other relevant news on an ongoing basis, recommending purchase of books or subscriptions for CSO use when appropriate. He or she will also collect relevant articles and other resources for the CSO website, blog and other distribution vehicles. 

(e) Help manage job postings, interviews and other recruitment tasks as needed. 

Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree is required; Law practice or related experience in higher education admission setting. Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite, including excel, access and powerpoint, as well as google calendar, surveymonkey, social networking sites, and career services management software (such as Symplicity or CSO) is desired. The incumbent should also possess exemplary organizational, time management and communication skills. The ability to multi-task is also critical. This individual must enjoy working with law students and legal professionals  

Preferred Qualifications: JD is preferred. It would be preferable if the applicant has prior experience in law school career services or higher education career services, hiring/recruiting in a law-related industry, student advising and counseling, marketing, social media, and statistical analysis.

volunteer lawyers project seeks full-time immigration attorney

The attorney will be part of VLP’s Immigration Project and will work out of VLP’s office in downtown Buffalo, but much of his/her work will be as part of our Legal Orientation Program (LOP) at the Federal Detention Facility in Batavia where the Department of Homeland Security holds approximately 600 non-citizen men in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court. The attorney is expected to conduct "Know Your Rights" presentations at the facility one or two times per week; give pro se workshops to prepare detainees to better represent themselves; provide individual orientations and consultations; and any other obligation required by the program, including attendance at an annual conference and other trainings. S/he will also handle a case load of immigration cases before the Court.

This is an entry level position under the supervision of the immigration project's Supervising Attorney, Sophie Feal, and VLP's Managing Attorney, Bob Elardo.

The ideal candidate will be admitted to the New York bar and will have two years of experience as an attorney, preferably in immigration law. We seek someone who is dynamic about effectively implementing our LOP program, as well as participating in other facets of VLP's growing immigration project. S/he must be able to work well independently while at the facility and be willing to litigate all types of cases before the immigration court. Strong oral skills are essential. A fluent knowledge of Spanish and English are required.
